Through the participation of both organizations in the landscape restoration project in the Solana de La Muela in Los Vélez.

A few months ago the AlVelAL Association presented the landscape restoration project on La Muela, Los Vélez. Today this project is a reality, thanks to the collaboration with Ecosia, who donated 50,000 trees.

This project is incorporateds in the general goals of Ecosia. Consisting of planting 1 billion trees by 2020. To meet this objective the company already has natural restoration project in Nicaragua, Peru, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Madagascar and Indonesia.

The collaboration of Ecosia and AlVelAl on La Muela, is the first project of the German company in Europe.

The plantation works have already begun and are extended to february, if the weather and the conditions of the plants permit it. The job is being done through the hiring of unemployed in the region and by volunteers from the Ecosystem Restoration Camps located in La Junquera, Murcia.

La Muela

The Solana de La Muela is an iconic place in the region of Los Vélez that can be seen from everywhere in the territory. The project has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the direction of the Natural Park of Sierra Maria - Los Vélez; Jaime Lara and Dietmar Roth; and the municipalities of the region.

The project consists of a vegetation restoration that allows the biodiversity and harmonic coexistence between flora and fauna of the environment. Based on the holistic philosophy of the 4 returns.

The restoration activities consists of the construction of a small checkdams made from local materials. The objective is capture of water, and slowing down the water flow.

In addition to that, the reforestation is done with native species, resistant to drought. This is a project that will improve the biodiversity, increasing the recilience of the area, attract pollinating insects, birds and other species. This is done by using new technologies and materials.

It’s a plan that has a multidisciplinary approach, based on a circular economy to optimize the territory’s resources; and where the local population participates.

Together against climate change

One of AlVelAl objectives is to improve the resilience of the territory against drought, climate change, soil erosion and reduced fertility as well as the preservation of biodiversity.

As such it neatly fits the goals of Ecosia, who’s goals are similar. 80 percent of their advertising revenue goes to the plantation of trees with the objective to reverse climate change.
